Our ASIS community had the privilege of attending the Web Summit Qatar 2024, the largest gathering of startups in the Middle East. The event, spanning four days, brought together a diverse group of professionals, including our Chapter Chair, Ranjiv Abraham, Women in Security Liaison Amna Ramadan, and several other esteemed ASIS Members, Women In Security (WIS), and NextGen community members.

The event was sold out, hosting an impressive 15,453 attendees from 118 countries. A significant 37 percent of attendees were women, with 30 percent of speakers and 31 percent of exhibiting startups being women-founded. A total of 1,043 startups showcased their innovations, with 10 percent representing Qatar, 20 percent from Africa, and a substantial 50 percent from the wider MENA region. Notably, 10 percent of exhibiting startups participated through Web Summit Qatar's Impact program, focusing on tech for good. The event floor featured 148 partners, contributing to the vibrant and collaborative atmosphere of Web Summit Qatar 2024.

From the moment Katherine Maher, the CEO, delivered her insightful inaugural speech, to the captivating address by Sheikh Moahmmed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, the Prime Minister of Qatar, the summit was an incredible convergence of global leaders. Special mentions must go to the incomparable Trevor Noah and the impactful address by Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan, who graced the event with their presence.

The resounding success of this event emphasizes the informed and diverse nature of the audience, showcasing the prevailing spirit of humanity in the world of tech and innovation.
